The Cicadas Are Coming!

In the past two years, New York has seen two hurricanes, a tornado, a crippling blizzard and an earthquake. This May, we'll be preparing for an insect invasion.

More here.

Whatever shall we do with them?

Ah, I remember the 2004 Cicada Invasion in the Midwest.

Have fun this summer. ^^

Get some sort of white noise machines to block out their maraca-esk call because they are surprisingly loud. Though nighttime noise is something New Yorkers are use to, so they probably won't be as disruptive to you as they were to us in semi-rural Indiana.

If I lived in NY right now, I would probably be screeching my head of. That's disgusting!!

I'm turning 17 soon. The last time the cicadas came was when I was just born. It's kind of cool, like we both have just completed one huge life cycle.

Plus according to that article, the cicadas are mostly going to be in NYC, so Maryland is safe! Yay! :)

we had them here in Tennessee in 2010 they were so annoying and kids would play with them(but they are fascinating from a distance)...good luck!

Oooh I'll be coming to NY in may then! We had an 'invasion' like this back in 2003. I kept some pet ones in jars. We also get green ones here. Very uncommon but not as rare as the black ones!
